   Lancé par la société Gemstar-TV Guide International en octobre 2000, le Gemstar eBook (nom de domaine: www.gemstar-ebook.com, désormais défunt) est un appareil de lecture - ou plus exactement une gamme d’appareils de lecture - qui succède aux précurseurs Rocket eBook et Softbook Reader, tous deux distribués en 1999. Les deux modèles - le REB 1100 (écran noir et blanc, successeur du Rocket eBook) et le REB 1200 (écran couleur, successeur du Softbook Reader) - sont construits aux Etats-Unis sous le label RCA (appartenant à Thomson Multimedia) et vendus par la chaîne de magasins SkyMall. En automne 2002, leurs successeurs, le GEB 1150 et le GEB 2150, sont construits sous le label Gemstar. En Europe, le GEB 2200 (proche du REB 1200) est lancé en octobre 2001 en commençant par l’Allemagne. La vente de ces différents modèles (50.000 machines vendues en tout) cesse en juin 2003.
